What Is Semi-Private Personal Training — And Why Does It Work?

You know you need to exercise.
You may even know what you should be doing.
But knowing what to do and actually doing it consistently are two very different things.
That’s where a lot of people get stuck.
Traditional gyms give you access to equipment, but you’re mostly on your own. Large group fitness classes provide energy and structure, but everyone is often following the same workout. One-on-one personal training provides individual attention, but it may not be the right fit for everyone.
At Results By Design Fitness, we believe there’s a better way.
It’s called semi-private personal training, and it combines individualized programming, professional coaching, accountability, and community into one training experience.
But there’s an important distinction:
Semi-private doesn’t mean semi-personalized.
What Is Semi-Private Personal Training?
Semi-private personal training allows a small number of members to train with a professional coach at the same time—while still following programs designed specifically for them.
Imagine three people training together.
One is 42 and wants to lose 30 pounds and feel confident again.
Another is 58 and wants to become stronger, improve mobility, and keep playing golf.
Another is 67 and wants to maintain muscle, balance, and independence so retirement stays active.
They’re standing in the same facility.
They’re working with the same coaching team.
But they shouldn’t necessarily be doing the same workout.
Their bodies are different.
Their histories are different.
Their abilities are different.
And most importantly, their goals are different.
That’s why individualized programming matters.
It Starts Before Your First Workout
One of the biggest mistakes in fitness is starting with exercise before understanding the person doing the exercise.
At Results By Design Fitness, we start with a Starting Point Session.
Before deciding what your program should look like, we want to understand you.
That means discussing where you are today, where you want to go, what’s worked before, what hasn’t worked, and what’s potentially standing between you and your goals.
We can evaluate body composition using our InBody 570, assess how your body moves through a Functional Movement Screen (FMS), discuss your health and fitness goals, and use that information to begin developing your roadmap.
The goal isn’t to squeeze you into our program.
It’s to build the right program around you.
That’s Where LIFT Comes In
At Results By Design Fitness, training is only one piece of the equation.
Our coaching system is called LIFT — Lifestyle Integrative Fitness Training.
Why?
Because sustainable health isn’t created by a workout alone.
Your results are affected by your:
Training. Nutrition. Sleep. Recovery. Stress. Habits. Mindset. Lifestyle.
You can have the world’s greatest workout program, but if it doesn’t fit your actual life, how long are you realistically going to follow it?
LIFT helps us look at the whole person—not simply what happens during your hour at the gym.
You’re Not Joining a Class
This distinction is important.
Semi-private personal training is not simply a smaller group fitness class.
In many group classes, 10, 20, or even 30 people perform essentially the same workout.
That can be a great experience for some people.
But what happens when your shoulder hurts?
What if you have a history of knee problems?
What if you’re a beginner standing next to someone who’s been training for 10 years?
What if your goal is improving your golf game while the person beside you wants to lose 50 pounds?
Those situations require coaching, not just exercise.
At RxD, your coach can modify exercises, adjust intensity, progress movements, monitor technique and help determine what makes sense for your body and your goals that day.
Coaching Changes Everything
Most people don’t fail at fitness because they don’t know that vegetables are healthy or that exercise is good for them.
They struggle with execution and consistency.
Life gets busy.
Motivation disappears.
Work gets stressful.
Vacations happen.
Sleep suffers.
You miss a week and suddenly one week becomes three.
That’s why we don’t believe our job is simply to count your reps.
Our job is to coach you.
Sometimes that means pushing you.
Sometimes it means pulling you back.
Sometimes it means changing the plan.
Sometimes it means reminding you why you started.
And sometimes it simply means having someone waiting for you when you’d rather stay home.
That’s accountability.
The Power of Training Together
There’s another part of semi-private training that can’t be programmed onto a spreadsheet.
Community.
There’s something different about walking into a place where people know your name.
You start recognizing the people who train around the same time.
You celebrate each other’s wins.
Someone notices when you’ve gotten stronger.
Someone asks where you were when you missed Tuesday.
And eventually, going to the gym stops feeling like something you’re forcing yourself to do.
It becomes part of your life.
That’s why you’ll hear us say:
We Are Stronger Together.
It’s more than a slogan.
It’s part of how we believe sustainable fitness works.
Who Is Semi-Private Personal Training For?
It can be an excellent fit for someone who wants more than access to equipment.
Maybe you’ve tried gyms before and struggled to stay consistent.
Maybe you’re successful in your career but frustrated that your health keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the priority list.
Maybe you’re entering your 40s, 50s, 60s or beyond and realizing that maintaining muscle, mobility and strength is becoming increasingly important.
Maybe you’re approaching retirement and want the health to actually enjoy everything you’ve worked for.
Or maybe you’re simply tired of starting over.
You don’t necessarily need a harder workout.
You may need a better system.
We’re Not Trying to Meet You Where You Think You Should Be
This is something we want every new member to understand:
You don’t need to get in shape before coming to Results By Design Fitness.
You don’t have to lose ten pounds first.
You don’t need to be able to touch your toes.
You don’t need to know how to lift weights.
And you certainly don’t need to look like the people you see in fitness advertisements.
Our job is to meet you exactly where you are today.
Then we build from there.
One workout.
One habit.
One win.
One week at a time.
Your Goal Isn’t Just to Get Fit. It’s to Build a Life You Can Keep Living.
Ultimately, we’re not interested in helping someone get in shape for six weeks and then disappear.
We want you to become stronger.
Move better.
Have more energy.
Build healthier habits.
Stay active.
Maintain your independence.
Travel.
Golf.
Play with your kids or grandkids.
And have the physical capacity to keep saying YES to the things that make your life worth living.
That’s what fitness should give you.
At Results By Design Fitness, we’re not just changing workouts.
We’re Changing the Way Fitness Is Done.
Ready to Find Your Starting Point?
You don’t need to know exactly what program you need.
That’s our job.
Your first step is simply sitting down with us, talking about your goals, understanding where you are today, and determining the roadmap to get where you want to go.
